ARD: A Program for First-Time Offenders
ARD stands for Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition. It is a program designed to keep first- time offenders out of jail. If your case is accepted into the ARD program, you won't lose your license for as long as you otherwise would.
If you successfully complete the program, a criminal conviction will not appear on a criminal background check. In fact, once you complete the ARD program, a petition can be filed with the court asking that the DUI charge itself be wiped from your record. Keeping your record as clean as possible is important for employment and other purposes.
Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition may present an option for avoiding a criminal conviction, and having a charge of DUI on your record expunged. However, this requires a community service commitment, enrollment in alcohol highway safety school, drug and/or alcohol counseling, and fees. Attorney's fees are usually charged on a flat fee basis in criminal matters and depend upon which stage of the proceeding is involved and the complexity of the case.
